FACTORY OF LIGHT

On the road to Las Dehesas is the old hydroelectric plant that supplied electricity to the streets and houses of Cercedilla for more than 50 years. A jewel of industrial heritage that maintains the original structure and machinery of the time with the added peculiarity that all the electromagnetic equipment is entirely national.

Inaugurated in 1925, this plant was a municipal initiative to produce public energy and counteract the rise in rates of the company that supplied electricity to the municipality.

Currently, the Light Factory has been converted into a hydraulic energy interpretation center with educational material, experience, and models. During the tour, the visitor will discover the history of the plant, how and why it was built, the water circuit: the channeling and storage of water, its operation and structure.
